A former school cleaner who has been a lifelong trade unionist has published a book reflecting on his working-class experiences.

Dave Chapple, of Bridgwater Trade Union Congress, has published his book ‘Somerset School Cleaners and their trade union, NUPE, 1937 to 1984’ with “substantial” support from UNISON and the General Federation of Trades Unions.

The book charts the author’s time living in Clevedon in the 1970s and early 1980s and working as a school cleaner and shop steward in the National Union of Public Employees (NUPE).
